I follow several different sites and organizations that deal with the loss of a child. One of the main ones is called Hope Mommies, and it’s actually the source of great healing for me on most days. Just to read about other women, mothers, and families dealing with loss and their experiences just solidified my own. Brent, I think, has mostly healed from the loss of Tucker through the birth and growth of our second son, Henry. I have healed, but grief still overcomes me at times.

In late 2017 we began to try to conceive our third child. In January we found out we were pregnant, and in mid February I began to bleed. We were shocked. Completely dumbfounded. I had, the moment I saw two lines on the test, began to prepare myself for loss. Again. But then, when faced with the reality of it, I was inconsolable. I wanted nothing more than to just pretend I was never pregnant. But I couldn’t. No one even knew except for us and our parents. And we told them after we had started miscarrying. It was awful. I had to decide if I was truly going to go on with my day to day life all the while losing our child, or if I was going to let people see how broken I was by losing them. I couldn’t hold it in. I told work, friends, family.. and I stayed home for what was a long and very exhausting week. It wasn’t easy. It didn’t happen fast, and it was completely natural. I cried. I prayed. I was angry. I held on to Henry and Brent like they were my only hope of getting throuh it. Of losing our third baby.

Eventually, things went back to normal, and we had to decide what to do next. Try again? Wait? When you’ve lost the most precious thing to you, twice now, it’s hard to make the call to risk it again. But when the result of it going right is waiting to be dressed each morning and to get a hug and kiss when you come home from work you try again. Or at least, we did. We want a big family.. we HAVE. a big family, it’s just that 2/5 of us are in heaven now. And that’s hard. So, we were mostly just avoiding being intimate until we worked up the courage to face our fears.. when our desire for a family outweighed the fear of getting pregnant. And very soon we were pregnant again.

I am just over 17 weeks pregnant. It’s not as long as I was pregnant with Tucker, but longer than the baby we lost this year. This time it is a little girl. Our first babe that we know has been a girl. It’s surreal. This pregnancy has been mostly calm, for which I am greatful. I can find her heartbeat, and Henry knows he has a baby sister in mommy’s tummy. He gives her hugs and kisses and makes me think I’m both crazy and hopeful for telling him she’s there. He asks about her. He tells everyone she’s there. He says sorry to her when he bumps me and wants to read her books. It makes me so happy. And so so scared sometimes. I pray for her, we all do, every night when we put Henry to bed. We pray for her to keep growing, for her to be safe and healthy, for her to come see her big brother in late October or early November. We pray for everyone to feel good and for God’s will to be done. Then later, usually when I’m alone, I pray the most fervent prayer that reiterated everything we’ve already prayed. I pray for health and growth of Henry and his sister. Of safety and peace and praying that all my babies know how much I love them and want them. And I cry. And ask that God gives me peace to accept whatever comes and that I value every moment I have with any and all of the children I have had or have.

So that’s where we are at. In constant flux of hope and worry. Of anxiety and peace. More often than not these days I feel peace, which is truly nice. With Henry I felt almost no peace, no matter what. I just had a looming cloud over my head for most of my pregnancy. Even in delivery I felt like something would take him from me. In the first 6 months of his life I was as close to him as I could be. Either in person or watching on the baby monitor. So this time. This time I am glad I am feeling more peace. But the moments of fear and anxiety that do come are just as intense, if not more so for having lost one more baby since Henry was born. Tonight the trigger was a blog post about losing your first born child. I can relate. And it never gets easier. I used to, somewhat, think that a miscarriage was easier to deal with than a stillbirth. I have now had both, along with one very health living child. Neither one is easier. They are different. I never felt the kicks of our third baby, which almost makes it harder because I have no real “connection” with that pregnancy other than my tests saying I was pregnant.. it made me feel like less of a mom because I had that baby for such a short time that we have no real memories to look back on. With Tucker, I felt the loss of the future more strongly because he was real to me. I felt him, I saw sonograms of him moving and he was a BOY.

This baby. This girl. Hadley Rose. She has me so excited to be her mommy. And for her to make Henry a big brother. And for her to be her daddy’s girl. I just want everything for her. And I’m praying I can give it to her for as long as I can in this life.

Hadley, we have a journey ahead of us, however long we have you. I pray we get to keep you for a very long time. Love, Mommy.

Today is the day we buried Tucker. Again, it's like everything happened all over again. I remember who came and who spoke at the funeral.. I remember having to look at all the things our family picked out because We couldn't bear to really do it. It is my dad's Birthday. I clearly remember when we were discussing which day the funeral would be on, I wanted it as soon as possible, and he said "I would be honored to share my birthday with my first grandson". And that was that. He knew we wanted it to happen quickly, and his birthday was only 2 days after Tucker's.. So the 25th it was.

It was such an exhausting day.. Having to get dressed and ready. I think it was the first shower I took since the day we found out he was gone. I remember nothing fit right and I looked like a mess. I  wished that I was being buried and not Tucker. I hated every single moment of holding in all the tears and sadness to "be strong". I got home and cried for the rest of the day. I think later in the day my parents and Brent began to take apart the nursery. I didn't want it all fixed and ready with no baby to put in there. The we closed the door and didn't open it for 6 months.

I think we actually went in the nursery on his due date, December 19th. I looked at the pictures they took and started writing in his baby book.

Maybe I should do that today. Update his baby book with his new sibling and write him a letter. Maybe.

Today is Tucker's 2nd birthday. I know it's silly to think of it as his birthday, but it puts the day in as a normal celebration for any child. Only my son's in heaven.

I haven't posted here in a long time - since right before we got pregnant, actually. Tucker's little brother was born 3 months ago, and he's been a huge blessing to us. I didn't really know how having my rainbow would affect today... How I would feel, would it make the anniversary of Tucker's death a little less hard since I have a baby in my arms? The answer is I don't know.

Tucker is our first son. We WANTED him SO BADLY. He can never ever be replaced. The aching in my arms to hold him, to see him grow, has not gone away. If anything, seeing how much I enjoy his brother makes me wish even harder that I had Tucker too. But, the loneliness and need to mother someone has lessened. My fears about never bringing a baby home from the hospital have subsided for now.. During my pregnancy with this new baby I lived in dread that SOMETHING was just about to happen and we'd never get to know this son either. Those feelings have now shrunk back into the depths of my mind as they are no longer relevant. We have our rainbow baby now. And he's perfect.

But, I still think about having 2 boys in my house. A would-be 18 month old and a 3 month old; if all had gone perfectly. My sister and I are 15 months apart, and I always call her my built-in-best-friend. I wanted that for Tucker and Henry.

The loss of Tucker has changed. It's still a banner I carry, along with a hole in my chest where he should be. I no longer hate my body and fear I'll never have a live baby, nor do I feel the need to get pregnant right now, but there is still a lot I mourn. Mostly it's the life we would have had with him, and less the actual birth of him. The grief is different, but better? I don't know.. Having a rainbow baby does make it to where I have less free time to dwell on our loss, but I LIKE remembering him. He is our SON. Our first born. Henry's big brother.

So happy 2nd birthday, Tuck. Mommy and Daddy STILL miss you and love you with everything we are. We hope you are smiling down at your brother and us. He's wearing your hand-me-downs today, just like most days. We wish you could have worn them in first.

Peace of Mind

So I've been working really hard to be okay with ebeything that is currently going on with my cycles.. It's not easy, but I need to deal with it, because it doesn't look like this is going to be a walk in the park.

I'm so frustrated that it's been 6 months and we haven't got pregnant yet. My cue is currently on day 64.. And I only ovulated 3 days ago.. That's not normal by any means. I'm just hoping that I have ovulated and my period will be here soon because IF we did O 3 days ago, our timing was terrible. So let's just move along and try again.

School is starting to get fun though! I'm loving NP classes and super excited clinicals start in a month!! I THINK I may have found a doctor to follow who does family practice and OB! That would be amazing! The only downside is that her practice is in a different town that's 40 mins away. Oh well! I just hope I'll be able to get in with her and see some stuff!

So over this

I'm so emotionally done with everything. I'm pretty sure my period is about to start, even though it shouldn't for another 5 days. I started spotting yesterday and this evening it happened again. I'm heartbroken and confused and feel like a failure. I don't understand why we got pregnant so easily the first time but now we can't. I don't want Tucker to be my only child. Please Lord don't make him my only baby. I want to have children of my own. I want to be pregnant. I loved being pregnant. I don't understand why this happening. Dear Lord please let me have a live baby. I don't know what else to do. I just feel so lost since we lost Tucker and now we can't even get pregnant again to try to move on! I can't stand this. I want a child! I want Brent's child.

Well today begins the waiting game for me.

Officially I think that I O'd yesterday? Maybe the day before. So our waiting game has begun. It's been a rough month for us. Both our emotions are all over the place, and it only seems fitting because we are both so desperate for some good news/ something to look forward to.

I really have a good feeling about this time. We timed it all well, and we can only hope! Poor us. Sex will probably be off the table for a few days while we recoup after that crazy sexcapade that has been the last week and a half. Haha. We were laughing last night thinking about how things change.. Once you experience a loss of a pregnancy or the loss of a child sex changes. It changes because the root of sex is still to make babies, and once you've seen the dirty side of that sex can never been so carefree. But it can be hopeful. And as much as we dread the loss of another baby, we can still hope to bring home a child. And that hope makes us giddy with happiness.. Even if our bits feel like they've been rung through the ringer over the course of the last few days. We are once again cautiously optimistic. And so now the two week wait begins!

So for now say a prayer for us!

Love, Nat.

Today I am

upset. I'm upset because everywhere I look people are moving forward with their lives and we are not. I'm upset because babies who were born when Tucker should have been are 3 months old now. I'm upset because everywhere I look there are babies. There are pregnancies. There is happiness.

I'm not saying that I am not happy. Mostly. I'm saying that this is hard. Every time I think I have begun to heal and am ready for the next chapter I realize I'm not. I don't think that I will ever be. As I'm sitting here I am beginning to feel the typical cramps feeling I get before my period starts. It started last night and I just want it to begin already. I'm sick of waking up every morning and peeing on a pregnancy test only to see that it's negative and I'm not carrying another child. I know that this must sound incredibly weak to couples who have been trying for year to conceive, but it's how I feel. I haven't even finished our first cycle of trying and I'm already so disappointed and hopeless. This is awful. I feel as if I'm a failure, as if it was a fluke I got pregnant the first time... That maybe we will never get pregnant again. I know I know that this is silly. It is unrealistic to think that we would get pregnant the first time trying again. But it happened last time. Last time everything was easy, it was carefree - until it wasn't. This time I have a feeling every second is going to be a struggle. Every moment will be a battle of wills and patience and prayer and above all - faith. Why then, if I know it's going to be hard do I feel so overwhelmed with how awful it is? I am struggling. I am disappointed and emotional and almost ready to give up. And it hasn't even been one whole cycle.

How can I do this for months more? When will it be enough? When will we finally conceive and carry a child to term that survives and we get to take home? How long? How many more tears do I have to shead? How many more gut wrenching photos must I see? How many more pregnancy announcements, gender reveals, shower invitations, or birthday parties must I witness without having some of my own? Will it ever come? Will I ever get to look at any of those things and not get sad and jealous and downtrodden? I can't imagine it. I don't think I can go back to being so hopefull and excited. For as long as I live I will never associate a pregnancy with a baby. I will always associate it with dread. With anxiety and fear. I have been robbed of hope for myself and for others. I can no longer even look at a pregnancy announcement without feeling dread for the parents. Part of me wants to hope, but the larger part wants to protect my heart.

I am in a weird place. I truly believed that once we were able to try again I would be given purpose and that it would help. I thought it would make me feel as if we were working towards the goal of a family, however now it just feels like we are fighting a losing battle. Like we are ignoring the inevitable truth that we are not meant to have our own family. It goes against what I feel, what I felt, in my heart when we got married. It is so terrible to think that your personal choices may be taken from you without your consent. We may never get to have a family of our own, even though we wanted a family with four children. I know we have time. This is the first cycle. But it is crazy to me how utterly hopeless we feel at this point when I thought having a goal would help. I'm at a loss. Grief has changed me from a sure woman who knew what was ahead of her to a woman who only knows how to guard her heart.

I just pray that God will help heal my heart and my mind. That He will help us to overcome this awful place we are in. That He gives us strength and patience and love. That He fuels our passion for life and each other and keeps us going. Maybe one day we will get to have our family, it just seems like it's so far away.

For now, I hope and pray He can help me feel a little less upset and a lot more thankful.

.. how accurate I was last post.

I am a wreck. We used the ovulation predictor kit but it messed up and I think we missed it for this month. I have been using the HPT's (home pregnancy tests) and am getting something that could be an error. I'm resigning myself to being okay with not getting pregnant this month, but it's proving to be difficult.

I'm lucky that Brent doesn't think I'm crazy. He understands how hard this is for me. At first I tried to hide how obsessive I was being, because I thought  it would freak him out. Tonight he told me that while it's a little different for him, he's still just as anxious to get pregnant again. He said all my emotions and fears and anxieties are understandable, and to some extent he feels the same way. It was such a relief to hear him say that. I still feel as if I'm being too obsessive, but I also know it just goes with the territory.

On top of all the trying to get pregnant stuff, it's been hard being positive and not letting Tucker get lost in all this, so tonight we did some things to help remember him around our house. We bought a picture frame that's made for sonogram pictures and it says Our Little Miracle on it. It's perfect. Tucker touched our hearts in ways that would have never been possible if he lived. He's given us so much to thankful for and to remember. He is our little miracle even if we didn't get to keep him. We also bought a little angel lovey. I think we'll keep it in the nursery of our future children just to remember him.

Anyways, I'm going to go read now. Goodnight.

Actively Trying

So we are now actively trying to get pregnant and I t's so much weirder and harder than I imagined.

There are so many emotions that go through my head and heart nonstop. I'm worried I'm going to be super obsessive until I get pregnant. Like testing and thinking something of every little symptom. I'm already using an ovulation predictor just to try and get pregnant quickly.. I'm worried that I'll get either super disappointed if we go longer than one month trying or that I'll just chicken out.

It seems like I've been super emotional too. I know that's probably normal, but I just feel sort of out of control. I can't feel %100 excited for getting pregnant just because I know now that bad things can happen. My idea of pregnancy is now jaded. I know that that's how I'm going to feel for the next pregnancy, for however long it lasts. I knew that there was a possibility that it might be this way, but I'm surprised that I feel it so soon. I cry every time I see a baby commercial or I see Facebook pictures of pregnancy announcements. It makes me nervous to go back to work, as I work with new moms. I didn't really think about how difficult this could be.

I have been praying since we lost Tucker that the next pregnancy goes smoothly and we get to keep it. Now I feel like I should have been praying for myself; for less stress and more enjoyment of each step in conceiving again. I feel so overwhelmed with so many emotions regarding this journey. I can't help but just wanting to cry or scream or just curl in a ball and pray.

So I just pray that all goes well, we get pregnant easily and this first month, and that baby is healthy and we hold on to him or her until term and deliver safely. I will just keep this prayer in my mind like a mantra.

Getting closer

So this last month has been really crazy. I had my first FNP clinical (family nurse practitioner).. It was sprung on us a week before the first person's clinical, as they were one per week for a month and a half. And just GUESS who was fist? Yours truly. :) It was crazy hectic getting ready, but it was fine and great and I am for sure this is what I want to do.

It's hard for me to deal with school sometimes. My orientation for school was supposed to be August 24th. However, on the 20th we were admitted to the hospital after the sonogram that changed our world. So since I had the most horrific induction of a stillbirth ever, and I was in the hospital for 5 days before we delivered, I missed getting to meet my fellow students and our instructors and go over things we should know. I feel like every time I'm unaware of something for school someone will inevitably say "maybe you should have come to orientation.." and I want to scream and punch them in the throat. Oh I'm sorry, I was having to give birth to my dead son. That's so much harsher than I actually feel, but I just seem to relate everything school-related with our loss. I love school, I love the thought of being more independent as a nurse. I'm just venting here because that's what I made this for... and to hide my crazy. :)

So lets talk about periods. Because that's fun. I was due for my period on the 3rd of February. That was 6 days ago. Since delivering Tucker, my periods have been a super regular 30 days. Before Tucker my periods were longer, normally about 36 days. So if for some reason my body was just readjusting, I should be having my period any day now. I freaked out and took several pregnancy tests, which were negative. Brent and I were planning on trying to get pregnant again this month, which is when ur OBGYN said we could. The 23rd of February will be the 6 month anniversary of Tucker's delivery, and that's the date he's going off of. With school, the logical time to have a baby would be during Christmas break or shortly before, that would allow for maximum No School and No Work baby time. That's when we were due with Tucker, December 19th. It's crazy to me that our loss and time we are allowed to try again line up perfectly with the best time for us to have a baby. February would obviously be a little early, but early won't hurt. I'm worried about what if we don't get pregnant right away. We conceived Tucker on the first month that we were trying, and our pregnancy went so smoothly. I can't wait to try again, but this late period is freaking me out. I have always been regular, and I'm sure it's just stress, but I'm freaked out that I'm late and I'm not pregnant. Being on TTC boards makes me worry about molar pregnancies, and early miscarriages, and I'm worried. I need it to start so I can move on. This is going to be hard enough without having to worry about a million other things going wrong OTHER than another stillbirth.

Oh gosh. So now I'm worried about that. With no period symptoms at all and a negative pregnancy test I'm completely dumbfounded. My mom is convinced I'm not pregnant and that it IS just all stress, so I'm going to go with that. I just don't want this stress to mess up the time we want to start trying to get pregnant.

Rant over.

So 1/12/15 is our second wedding anniversary! Brent and I are so in love and we cannot believe how fortunate we are to have one another. This last year has been crazy, but I'd really rather have him and go through all we've been though then go through anything better with someone else. God placed Brent in my life and I will always be thankful for him knowing what we each needed and giving us that. This new year will be full of its own ups and downs, just as last year was, but we know that with the Lord and each other we can get though anything. We are clinging to each other and our faith, which is all we need. The Lord has been good to us, even during our struggles. Brent is the most amazing husband and father, and he brightens my day by just standing beside me. He has been such a strong father this last year to Tucker. He not only has loved him every second of his brief life, but also helps me to celebrate it when I only feel sadness. He is my defender, my strength, the father of our angel son, and the leader of our small family. I know that this next year will be challenging as we again trying to add to our family, but with Brent by my side, I know we will get though it together. It's been such a joy loving and being loved for two whole years by my beautiful husband. I can't wait for 3 years!

Last night I was working, and around midnight I got this sweet message from Brent. :)

Happy cotton anniversary, babe! I'm going to sleep now, but I just wanted to let you know that the past two years have been a blast despite all the bad things in life that get us down. No matter what bad circumstances we have faced, I have been able to pull through it because God put you in my life. You give me peace, abundant joy, excitement, and a warehouse full of laughs and smiles. And perhaps my favorite thing about you is that you love me back. That's one thing that I could never buy, earn, win, or acquire by a lifetime of pursuing you, and that is what makes it such a priceless quality. Thank you for loving me! Thank you for your patience in putting up with me when I get worked up and act like a butthead. I look forward to this year because even if storm clouds roll in, you are my bright hot ball of fire hanging in the center of my heliocentric universe, and you will light me up, keep me warm, and keep me looking up until the clouds disperse. I am so blessed to be your husband. I don't remember where I bought the scratch-off that I won you with, but I certainly hit the jackpot. ;) Have a good night at work! I'm going to sleep now. See ya tomorrow... And every day after that! :D

We have a lot to be thankful for and a lot to look forward too!!

Love, Natalie

Today was the day we were anxiously awaiting my sweet son! You were supposed to be here any moment. We were supposed to be trying anything we could to get you to come meet your parents. We were supposed to be all packed up and ready to rush to the hospital at any hour of the day. We were supposed to have your going home outfit picked out and your car seat installed. Your nursery all decked out and your very first stocking hung next to ours. We were supposed to have very tiny little gifts under the tree and family and friends all waiting to get "the call". We were supposed to be sharing this day with you. Maybe. Or maybe you'd be stubborn and come a few days late, as most first babies tend to do.

But that won't be us this year. You've come and gone almost 4 months ago. It's hard. This was supposed to be our first Christmas with you, but it's our first without. Today is your due date, sweet sweet son. We miss you. We are hurting so deeply that no Christmas gift can replace our sorrows and pain. We feel you today. We feel your eyes looking down and your love in our hearts and we know that you are okay, even though we don't get to have you here.

Your parents are having a bad day, Tucker. We love you, but we miss you and all the possibilities we could have had. I pray that you've found your amazing grandparents who are in heaven and they are telling you stories of your parents at Christmas-time in years past. We hope you get to sit on one or two laps that love you. That you get held and loved on and know how much we wish that that could be us holding you. Smelling your precious hair and holding your tiny hands. We love you and miss you.

Mommy and Daddy.

I feel like a terrible person. After all we've been through this year with all our losses and stressors I can still find so much to be thankful for... But I don't want to be thankful. I want to be mad. I want to cry and scream and throw a fit until my Heavenly Father gives me what I want like a spoiled child. I want my baby. This was supposed to be our first Christmas as a family WITH him. Now it's the first Christmas without.

My best friend, who got pregnant just weeks before we did, is due any day now. She is expecting a precious baby girl, and her parents are so ready for her to be here. See, their due date is tomorrow, the 6th, and our was the 19th. We were so excited to be going through pregnancy together. To be starting a long process of raising eachother's children together. But now she's going to get her baby and I'm not. I know, I know. I am GLAD she got to keep her baby. But that doesn't stop me from being completely broken that I didn't.

I cannot come to terms with all these feelings I have. They come in waves and overtake my spirit with such a ferocity that it unnerves me. I am a calm pond of serenity, with peace through Christ most of the time. Until something, some small thing like Christmas enters my mind. And I'm reminded of the first big holiday we were supposed to be together. And we won't. Then suddenly I'm in a boiling raging sea that I can barely keep afloat in. I pray and pray and try to calm down. Try to be thankful that I know we will see Tucker again. BUT THAT'S NOT WHAT I WANT! I WANT HIM IN MY TUMMY! IN MY ARMS IN A FEW WEEKS!

I am so jealous of my best friend. I feel like a terrible person. Her big swollen belly with her kicking baby inside no longer makes me flinch every time I see it, but I know that her sweet, precious, baby girl will always be a reminder to me of what I don't have. And I'll be back on that raging sea where I'm barely hanging on. It's not fair. I know it's not, and there is no way to say anything else. I just wish that these circumstances didn't make me feel like such a terrible person. I am in a constant state of asking God to give me the strength to be okay with our lives and our losses. I am constantly asking for more and more of God's grace to get me through the day. I just wish I didn't need it. That I could be a more positive person who didn't feel one second away from getting lost in that raging sea. More than anything I wish I could be that huge and blissfully happy pregnant woman you always see out and about, just waiting for her perfect baby to come, knowing that everything will be alright. I don't think I'll ever be able to be her, even if we do get pregnant again. I have been robed of a peaceful and stress-free pregnancy.

So I'll keep praying and praying that I will begin to feel a constant peace about all of this.. that maybe someday I won't be thrown into the stormy-sea that is intense grief and jealously. I will keep praying and God will keep giving me the grace to get through it.

August 20, 2014

On August 20th, Brent and I went in for a routine ultrasound at 22 weeks and 5 days into our pregnancy. We were stunned when we found out that baby Tucker was no longer with us. He had no heartbeat. We were sent to the hospital and induced, and on the 23rd we delivered our precious boy. How weighed in at a tiny 13 ounces and was 13 inches long! Had he kept growing at that rate he would have been a long and lean baby, taking after his Daddy. Delivery was hard, with my body wanting to hold on to our boy who wasn't due for another 3 months, but we made it though with no epidural and very little to complain about in his actual birth. We said goodbye at a memorial service on August 25th, my Dad'd birthday. He said he would willingly share his special day with his firstborn grandson.

It's been over two months now since we lost Tucker, and every day has been a struggle. He was perfect, the doctors and nurses said, it was his umbilical cord that had the problem. It was wrapped twice around his neck, which was his cause of death. All Tucker ever knew was love and warmth and peace. Brent and I are so lucky that he never knew any pain or sin, or hate. We think of him often, and now sometimes with a smile rather than tears. He will always be our first child. Our Son. God is taking care of him and showing him all the love we wish we could. We will meet again, in heaven. We cannot wait.

I'm a nurse. I know one in four pregnancies end in either miscarriage or stillbirth. Stillbirth is still the less common of those two by only accounting of one in three of those. Our Tucker was due to a Nuchal Cord accident that is still only ten percent of those... And he had a Double Nuchal Cord, which is even more rare. This was a rare and terrible accident. We have been assured that the chances of this happening again are slim to none, and that it was not caused by anything we had done. Being a white male was his highest risk factor, which is not saying anything. It could be anyone. It was us.

We are still mourning the loss of our sweet boy in our own ways and time, but we will try again. We were given a six month minimum wait time to try and conceive again, and as of now we think we will try again as soon as we are able. We are both so thankful for a firm foundation in Christ and our faith. Without it we could never be in this place of such healing and peace only months after this devastating loss. Our families, especially our moms, have been with us through everything and have also been instrumental in our healing. Our church family has also been here for us as we couldn't have thought to ask, sending prayers and meals to us at all hours of the day, aiding in our healing. We are so blessed. We are thankful for everything. For the opportunity to be Tucker's parents for his short time on earth.

Please continue to pray for us.

!!!!

Welllllllll. Brently's and I are going to find out the sex of the baby in 4 days!! :D We are so very excited!

So that's me!! All 18 weeks pregnant! This next picture is of our Ashmore nephew, so baby could look like him?
Orrrr it could look like our little Ashmore niece?? :)

I guess we'll find out soon enough, but to me both babies look like their Momma's, so I can't really tell what the "Ashmore" side babies look like! :o

Ups and Downs

This last month has been so full of ups and downs it's unbelievable. I really can't imagine how I'm even functioning after all the stress I've been under! So. I'm going to make a list of Downs followed by a list of Ups, and maybe in the end it'll help me feel a little more thankful and a little less annoyed. Here goes.

Downs
1. AC breaking at the new house
2. The wall not being finished at the new house
3. Hailstorm from hell, which totaled my paid-off car.
4. STILL WITH THE NAUSEA!
5. Brother and sister in law still not talking to us, nor telling us the sex of the baby - even when they told everyone else
6. My OBGYN telling us BY MAIL that they are switching to a different hospital that does not take our insurance - effectively making us find a new doctor 4 months into this pregnancy
7. My preceptee making a HUGE med error the ONE time I've left the floor while he was doing med pass (2 days before he was finished with orientation!)
8. Brent and I fighting a TON over unpacking the house.

All of these things have happened so fast together that I'm really not sure, like I said, how I'm still emotionally stable. It's HARD dealing with so many things going wrong at the same time.. I didn't even list all the fun little joys of homeownership, like our refrigerator leaking water all night so we woke up with a lake in our kitchen. Those things seem insignificant when I'm talking about things on this much larger scale. I'm at my wits end. Things need to start looking up ASAP. I guess I do have some good things to list though!

Ups
1. I'm in the second trimester now!
2. We are getting much more than I thought we would for totaling my car, so maybe we can buy one outright?
3. I finished cleaning the duplex today, so we are done with renting.
4. We find out the sex of the baby next month!
5. We have a home warranty, so the ad only cost us $60
6. At least I know how to combat the nausea?!

It's not easy. All this is really hard and I'm trying to figure it out by myself. Marriage is hard. Pregnancy is hard. Buying a new house is hard, and so is dealing with the unexpected. I cannot tell you how much all of this happening together is stressing me out. Is stressing my marriage out. I'm exhausted because it all is happening at once, and I didn't realize just how much it was worrying me. I need to take a few steps back and examine how lucky I am. I need to see how much we have accomplished. All of these things that are my downs I have to take in stride. They can all be managed and fixed, it just takes time. Killing myself over doing everything at once will not help me. Or Brent. We need to calmly face them one by one and tackle this as a team. That's the only way it will get done period. And the less stress the better.

So for now, I'll just go try to organize my life and the things making it hard right now. I will cry, and think, and make plans. I will make my goals become realities and turn my Downs into Ups. Or at least I'll try.

More fun!

So many fun things are happening! We have officially got the house! We'll sign on it and get the keys Monday morning! Then that afternoon I have my second prenatal visit and we'll pay off the doctor's bills of having a baby! :D I'm almost done with my first trimester!! :) Brent has graduated and I gave him the gift of a fancy suit. :) We are able to pick that up Monday as well!

Monday will be a very busy day!! I also have completed my application to graduate school and hopefully will be starting in the fall! Bren is getting a little time off from job searching due to us having to move and me not being able to help move the heavy stuff... So I preferred that we got settled into the new house before he starts trying, that way it'll be a little less stressful!

It's going to be such a great year for us! Oh yeah! Estimated due date is December 19, 2014!! :) Our precious little baby!! :D Ahhhhh!!!

Love always

Well, a lot has happened since I last posted.. Some very big changes are in the making! :) I found 4 days ago that I'm pregnant!! :D Brent and I are overjoyed! We have wanted to start trying and it's happened so soon! We were both shocked, excited, and amazed that this precious gift has been given to us! We are very early on in the whole thing, maybe 4-5 weeks along, but so excited! We have begun to tell family and friends and could not be happier! This little one will be due either the end of December or beginning of January, I'm not sure which just yet! :) Brent has just got the best graduation gift he could ever ask for! And I've been given the gift of life! :D I still can't believe that someone is growing inside of me! OUR BABY!

Anyways. That's THE change! And it's a great one!

Today we laid my Papa Ray to rest. He went suddenly, and unexpectedly, in his sleep.

Now, I have never had a great relationship with him, nor have anyone in my immediate family since he remarried. His new wife preferred to keep her own children and grandchildren separate from his own. So we rarely met, and barely knew one another. Today, and the few days leading up the burial, made that all the more painfully awkward. See, to my step cousins Papa Ray was a father figure and a man to lean on in times of need. He had the strength and selflessness they needed. But to me and my family all he ever was was Absent. It has been painful realizing how little my father has seen his own father since he remarried. My father was shaped by this man to be the same selfless, strong, caring, and gentle man he is... And he was forcibly estranged by him due to his father remarrying and acquiring a new wife , children, and grandchildren. So today, sitting in the funeral listening to all the traits that were spoken of and revered, all I heard were reasons why they couldn't visit, why they had to see other family, why they were not available.. And all I could think about was my personal resentment of the new wife and how much I missed out on seeing my Papa Ray. That and anger. Then I glanced up and saw my father crying. I mean sobbing. And my mother comforting him. I broke down. Not for my absentee grandfather, but for my father's absentee father. When he remarried two years after my grandmother passed from cancer, I can only imagine the hurt my father felt. But then to see his father move away from the life he made for himself, not to mention his deceased wife and two sons, to take care of a new family, must have broke his heart. So today at the funeral I wept and wept hard. For the family that could have been. For my precious father. For him and his precious father he had lost over 20 years ago. I don't think anything can hurt as feeling unloved by your own family.

So today we loved on our father. And prayed for Amazing Grace that we could see past the hurt and appreciate the man that made and raised my amazing Father. I will never know the whole situation, and maybe the hurt will decrease as I get older, but for now I just pray for Grace to get through this. For my father to get through this. For those that my Papa Ray loved, and those that loved him even from afar.

One year into our wonderful marriage! I cannot believe it! We are so happy and in love and all the other cliches that go along with newly weds! In my wildest dreams I imagined feeling loved like this, and now my dreams have come true. I am truly blessed.

My work is busy, exciting, and altogether what I expected AND what I did not. Marriage is the same! As far as working goes though, I am fully confident and capable in myself. I am even applying to go back to school to be a nurse practitioner! I cannot wait! It'll be good for our future, and I think that's what my calling has always been, but we'll see. For now though, Neurology is my home and I love it, no matter how crazy the crazies get!

Brent graduates this May with his bachelors and then he'll start working as well. We are entering the most fun time in our lives! On top of that we have decided to start trying to make our own family! This will come at a perfect time, as our two sister in laws on Brent's side are already expecting! How much fun will that be growing up with cousins all the same ages? We  are both excited and nervous at the same time (as probably anyone in our place would be). We are also saving for a house, possibly making this town our home for quite a while. If all goes according to plan, in two years I will graduate with my masters in family nurse practitioner and I will also be free of my four year contract with the hospital that is paying off my bachelors loans! Then it will be a new start with only my masters degree loans to pay off! It's a very exciting time indeed!

:) Natalie
